Welcome to the Central Connecticut Board #6 of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials! Our organization was established to train and educate high school basketball officials in the central Connecticut area (Hartford and Middlesex counties). We belong to a larger international organization comprised of several thousand male and female officials. We welcome your interest in basketball officiating. Our job is to help you begin a successful officiating career.

There are several steps to becoming an “approved basketball official.” It is our responsibility to help you complete these steps. The first step requires registering for a training class/exam option. There are two options for demonstrating your knowledge of the rules of the game. The first option is the “live” (in-person) rules classes/review sessions and taking the 50-question test in person on November 4, 2019. The second option allows you to complete your own study of the rules and complete the test online. All registrations for new candidate will be collected online. Payment for this process must also be completed online at the time of registration. Cash/checks/money orders will no longer be accepted. Payment must be made prior to attending the training classes.

Upon achieving a successful score on the rules exam, you will then be assisted by our New Applicant Training Committee and must successfully complete a “floor exam”, whereby you are evaluated as you officiate pre-season basketball scrimmages. You will learn more about attendance requirements and the time period from our New Applicant Committee.

It is a rare individual who is able to successfully pass the rules and floor exams without sufficient review of the national rules book and attendance at our scheduled sessions. We expect a commitment from you. You will be provided access to a special online program entitled, RefSchool, which allows you to practice a variety of questions for each of the rules.

On this page, you'll see a schedule of our review sessions for the rules/written portion of the training classes. All sessions will be held at the ITBD (Institute of Business & Technology) 185 Main St. in New Britain from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. We will have study materials available for each session and share past test questions/answers to help in your test preparation. We will also be available for additional review on class nights at 5:30, and after class until 8:30pm.

We love the game of basketball and fully understand the critical role of basketball officials. We look forward to your participation. Please contact us if you have any questions.
